Abstract
We evaluated a pelvic CT findings of the peritoneal inclusion cyst and the relationship of the ovary to the peritoneal inclusion cyst. We studied the pelvic CT of 4 women (from 21 year to 45 years old) with two surgically proved peritoneal inclusion cysts and two radiologically suspected peritoneal inclusion cysts. Author reviewed the medical records of patients focusing on the clinical findings, presence of previous operation history, and evaluated the CT findings including size, shape, location, the presence of normal ovary, peritoneal wall thickening, and the presence of solid mass within cystic lesion. Pelvic pain was complained in 3 patients. All 4 patients has previous operation history. Variable sized irregular shape cystic lesions are noted in pelvic cavity in all patients. Cystic mass diameter raged from 7.5 cm to 12.3 cm size (mean 11.5 cm). They were defined by adjacent pelvic structure. The ovary was detected on CT in all 4 patients in peritoneal inclusion cysts. In two women, the normal ovaries were inside the cysts. And in two women, they were located in the wall of peritoneal inclusion cysts. But, peritoneal thickening and solid mass within cystic lesion were not noted in all patients. In conclusion, In women with a history of pelvic surgery, the appearance on pelvic CT of ovary in side a large ovoid, irregular cyst mass is characteristic of a peritoneal inclusion cyst.
